True Friends

Life has been pretty crazy for the past 18 months. Between thinking I had a miscarriage, to learning I was 12 weeks pregnant, to the sickness of a pregnancy, to having a c-section, and all the medical issues which followed... it has been quite a ride. Today I have a deeper appreciation for good doctors, for modern medicine, and mostly for
TRUE FRIENDS.
Thank you, my friends. Whether I call you my sister or brother (in-law or by birth), mom, child, husband, or friend-- I cannot thank you enough for sticking with me through this difficult journey. Answers are coming, solutions are presenting themselves, and things will be returning to "normal" sooner than later. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Wakko's and Peanut's Special Day

Wakko is such a great brother! He shared his 8th Birthday with Peanut... she was blessed on his Birthday. Two weeks prior to the big day, we got the all clear to move Wakko's baptism to that day as well; it will forever be a day we will cherish!

Thank you to Nate, Melissa, Sydney, Macey, and Porter for flying out to share this day with us! You made the day extra special. Thank you Melissa for your talk; it was fabulous and super memorable.

Meeting Peanut

This is the first of what is sure to be many posts documenting one of the best weeks I've had in a very long time! My awesome brother and his fabulous wife and kids were here for a week. My favorite part of it all was how great the kids got along; they could have played non-stop together!

Thanks, Nate and Melissa, for the sacrifices you made to make this trip possible. I can hardly wait to see you and your gorgeous kids again! Love to you all!

Being Patient

Dear Darling Blog Friends,

Thank you for being patient. Life has been insanely busy. Great, but busy. I will get updates, pictures, posts, and all that jazz soon. Just promise me you'll keep being patient. I hope you enjoy the picture of Peanut... I know it always makes me smile to see pics of my cute kids.

Love,
Me

I Can't Believe It!!!!!!

Okay, so any of you that know me well know that I adore the website Pioneer Woman! I love the recipes, demos, photo stuff, home school section... I really enjoy reading and following her site. The funniest thing about it is that although I have never met her, I feel so connected to her. She is a former ballet dancer. She is a city girl who lives in the country (okay, so I moved back to the city...). She home educates. She LOVES to entertain people with food. We have so much in common!

Well, I entered yet another contest on her site (shock), but this time it was one I was soooo badly wanting to win... AND I DID! I am one of the very lucky 50 winners who get 5 photo books from Snapfish! My entry was a book I put together featuring our pictures from our trip to Disneyland last year; I admittedly have never scrap booked our trip, so this was extra fun!

I will be using the other books to chronicle our newest addition's first weeks, highlights from the past year, etc. I am just giddy!

Thank you so much, PW! You've made my month!

Lessons on Being a Friend

Most people measure a year from January to December. Since we moved from one end of the state to the other just over two years ago, I've been measuring years by seasons. Spring is the start of my year... and as I reflect upon the last year, I can see a major theme: lessons learned on being a friend and handling trials.

I've allowed people into my life who have wanted what I want in a friendship in return, and been richly blessed. I've learned how far a simple "thank you" note can go. I have reconnected with friends I haven't seen in years and years, and rejoiced that they are still friends. I have been relieved when old issues are forgiven and forgotten. I have loved getting to know friends within my ward and neighborhood through different activities. I have adored strengthening relationships with my sisters, and growing so close to my sister-in-law. I have been blessed to meet some amazing people who will always be in my heart.

I've opened my heart too quickly, and paid a big price; a broken heart. I have not worked as hard on some relationships as I should have, and been a slacker from time to time. I have seen and felt the hurt that follows. I will not let the heartache experienced stop me from continuing building friendship old, new, and yet to come.

I feel I need to apologize for being so grumpy lately. I know I technically have "an excuse", but realized today how lame it is that I've allowed it to be my fall back. Please accept my apology for being less than optimistic and positive lately. I promise to do my best to improve my attitude.

My dad sent me an inspiring story about refining silver; I was touched and changed. After debating whether or not I should post it, I've decided to go ahead. I hope you enjoy it, too. I worry about posting it out of fear that I may come across as overly religious or preachy; I was moved by it and it helped me look at our family's recent streak of trials. I am thankful for the friendship I have with my parents.

Thank you for being a part of my journey!

Malachi 3:3 says:

"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver..."

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.
One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver...
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says:
"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."
She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.
The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment... Then she asked the silversmith,
"How do you know when the silver is fully refined?"
He smiled at her and answered,
"Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Friends Rock!

The kids had a great afternoon filled with lots of friends. My former neighbor Michelle came over today bearing an indoors picnic. Our boys are nearly the same ages, so it was extra exciting for them to have their buddies come and play. The three hours they were here seemed to fly by in a flash!

Since my kidlettes had worked so hard to get school work done early, they were able to play all afternoon thereafter with neighborhood buddies. It was such a blast watching all the boys in the neighborhood play with light sabers and on bikes. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures... just know that it was adorable.

Dot and I hung out and watched the first couple of episodes of LOST, season 3. It was AWESOME! Thanks again, Megan, for the lending!

Dinner tonight was a fabulous home made chicken soup, compliments of Amy H. One of the awesome benefits of having dinner brought in is getting to try the fabulous recipes my friends make. Considering that we're now on the Relief Society schedule to have dinner brought in every Thursday, I have a feeling we'll be getting even more opportunities to try new dishes. It's so hard to be on this end of service... but it gives me a greater desire to serve others when I can do so again.

My honey's ultrasound today didn't show gall stones, but something is definitely going on in his abdomen. He's getting a scan done at the hospital tomorrow; we're hoping for answers soon.

Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers: it means so much to us!

Count Them One By One...

This week has been really tough. There. I said it. This week has been a doozer.

Without going into gory details, I'll just say that our family has been tested to the point of craziness. It's just funny how life does that to you... when you need it the most. I am so thankful for the blessings that my sweet hubby and I received tonight. You see, on top of contractions and an oral surgery that I ended up having Tuesday, I've had complications from medication. To make things even harder here, it looks as if my sweet heart has gall stones and may need surgery. We will find out Thursday for certain.

Fortunately, several people have listened to promptings and helped out when I couldn't ask for help. I had a phone call today from the Kind Amy H. that meant the world to me. We had dinner brought to us by the Adorable Mandee Lue and her sweet hubby; boy was it DELICIOUS! I had a wonderful visit by the Darling Megan S.; it's always such a pleasure to have her around! Daniel B. and Michael H. gave my honey a Priesthood blessing and assisted my sweet heart give me a blessing tonight that helped ease our minds and hearts. I know that things will turn out the way they're supposed to and that He is aware of our family and our trials.

Today has been a big reminder that though life can throw you for a mega loop, there is always help available. We are never forgotten, we are never alone. I cannot wait until I have a chance to serve in return. I have learned so many lessons from the trials that our family's faced over the past 33 1/2 weeks. I have developed such a deep appreciation for answered prayers, for promptings of the Spirit, for friends who are true, for family that supports, and for blessings too numerous to count. I have been reminded of all the kind thoughts, acts of service, and prayers on our behalf. Dinner offers, visits, phone calls, packages in the mail, gifts, emails, texts... things that mean so much to our family and have been poured out in abundance over the past weeks. I know if I try to list all the acts of kindness and service, I will fail to thank everyone. It's been unbelievable and overwhelming in an amazing way.

Although there are some who think that blogging bliss is ridiculous; I just don't care. I feel so thankful for my blessings today, and feel like shouting it to the world! Thank you for being a part of life's journey with me. *hugs!*

Getting Lost!

Cutie Pie Megan lent me the first season of "Lost" to occupy my time while on bed rest. I haven't ever tried to watch the show, and have often wondered what all the hype was about.

Now I know.

I've just finished watching disc 2 of 7... and I'm officially hooked!

Thanks, Megan! You're a gem!

Aha! Moments

There's a commercial on t.v. right now called "Aha! Moments". It is a series of sweet moments from peoples' lives in which they felt their lives were changed.

This week has been filled with personal "Aha! Moments".

1. My children are amazing people. I know it seems like all I ever say about them is how great they are: it's just the truth! I really don't know why I've been blessed to have them in my life, but I am Eternally grateful for them. They are thoughtful, kind, talented, smart, darling, cute, and loving. I love them to the edges of the universe and back! Between fixing meals, cleaning the house, baking cookies, hanging out with me, and working extra hard on school work, they simply amaze me.

2. My dear friends will stick with me through everything. Trials have a way to bring out our truest selves. Today alone I had the pleasure of having lunch with Darling Megan (you are such a doll!), a drop in visit with Sweet Mandee Lue (I'd love to see you any time!), a phone call from Dear Michelle (I'm so happy to have spent some quality chat time with you!), and dinner from Ben and Kim (can we say "delicious!!!!!!!"?). I feel so loved!

3. I am married to the hottest, kindest, most amazing man ever! He is my True Love, and I am in awe at the man he is. He loves me so much and is willing to do anything he can to show me! He is my protector, my hero, my prince.

4. I have amazing families. No family is perfect, and mine are no exceptions; but I wouldn't change one thing about any of them. I adore my side of the family as well as my husband's. They are the spice in life! My parents and parents-in-law teach me so much about life and children. My siblings and sibs-in-law are awesome. I can't get enough of my neices and nephews: they are fabulous!

Okay, I probably ought to get off my cloud and go to sleep. Life is good, and I am thankful for all of you being a part of it!

So Thoughtful!

The generousity of my sweet sister-in-law will never cease to amaze me! Thank you, Melissa! Thank you for the baby shower/early birthday gifts! I am so blessed to have you in my life.

Now... which one to read first? Yay!!!!!

Surprises!

This afternoon has been one of surprises: it's been such a nice day!

First off, my punks asked about doing a science experiment. We were finished with school work for the day, so I was taken back. Did they really want to do more? Apparently, this was just part of a game... not for anything but fun. No school work, no credit, just for fun.

I found my kids outside....

they built a volcano! Much to their pleasure and excitement, they learned that baking soda and vinegar really do make a cool volcano! I just wish I could have watched the whole thing.

You see, I have been placed on bed rest this week. (I will find out on Friday how long this should last.) As I was just finishing up reading another chapter of my book, Dot came in with a package. This is what was inside:

Melissa, you spoil us rotten; thanks so much! You know how usually when you say "lol" you are figuratively laughing out loud... well, the "Little Peanut" onesie literally made me "lol"! Thanks a million!

I Love Raggedy Ann

Last night my sweetie and I spent a huge chunk of our tax return on food storage items. It was very fulfilling in that I know that we could literally survive for months on what we've got sitting in our basement. The two of us are into such a "nesting" frenzy, that this seemed like the next logical step in preparing for our big arrival.

When we got home from shopping trip number two, Dot informed us that a couple from our neighborhood (Nicole and Kevin) had stopped by while we were out. My first thought was "Bummer! I missed them! I totally love them!". Then Dot showed us a fun surprise they'd dropped off for us:
Dot said with a smile: "Nicole asked if I knew who Raggedy Ann was. I had to smile at it since I totally know who Raggedy Ann is!"

You see, my favorite dolls when I was a little girl were my Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls my mom made for me. I don't know where Raggedy Ann is, but I've got my Andy in a box downstairs. When Dot was still cooking, I made her a Raggedy Ann doll.

We practically have a shrine to Raggedy Ann in our basement.Nicole and Kevin, you are so kind to do this for us! It means so much to me! Thanks!

Goin' Retro Style

It's been 21 years since I spent any significant amount of time with one of my most dear childhood friend... until Monday.

Eve, Nicci, and I had a great time at lunch. It was such fun seeing them again: it really brought back memories. Although Nicci and I have had an on-and-off contact for all the years between our mega-sleepovers and hours of hanging out to the present, Eve and I have not. Life took us in different directions, and for reasons we don't fully understand we lost contact with one another.

It's always such a joy spending time with Nicci: she and I were often teased by our parents that we were together so much that we were actually sisters. I have so many fond memories of my childhood, and the majority of them include her. Ah... chocolate wedding bells, M&M's, sleep-overs, school, home made "Cabbage Patch" dolls, McDonalds, walking all over town...

I've thought of Eve often over the past 21 years. It was surreal spending time with her again! It's nuts to me that so very much time has passed; it makes me feel old. I recall 6th grade in Miss Mickelson's class... oh, we were naughty girls! I remember rearranging desks, drawing when/where we shouldn't have, snacks, giggling, Tiffany tapes, leaf factory... oh, Eve! How I've missed you.

Another unexpected thing that has come about this week is a renewed love for my friends past and present. I have a deeper love and appreciation for them, and want more than anything to spend time with them and show them my thanks. Thank you for being there for me in the brightest times, in health, in happiness, and in joy. More than that, thank you for being there in the darkest, toughest, sick, and sad times. Thank you for sharing with me your joys, struggles, happiness, heart ache, and life.

I feel that one of the greatest things we can do in this life is make connections with others. Building relationships is key to happiness in this life. Renewing old friendships, building new friendships, and developing existing friendships make life colorful and happy.

Spoiled Rotten

I am being spoiled rotten. That's just the truth. You see, I have amazing family and friends who keep giving me stuff to get ready for the big arrival of Peanut.
Tiffanie provided me with just about all my maternity clothes for the first several months of my known pregnancy. I am so grateful for her generosity and help! I've loved the clothes, and feel so blessed to have you in my life. I hope I haven't stretched them out... Melissa sent me maternity clothes that will work perfectly for the last trimester. Yeah, it's been great being able to use these darling clothes from my cute sisters! Thanks, Ladies!

Melissa has been a busy woman: she also made three darling bracelets for Peanut (and a matching one for Dot), the cutest "diaper rags" (not at all fitting for how cute they are), burpees, and my new favorite favorite blanket--the taggie blankie. As if that were not enough to make me giddy forever, she also made a cutie pie outfit for Peanut and bought several others for her. I know that thanks to fabulous ladies like her, Peanut will be one styling baby!

Thanks a bazillion!

p.s. Sorry the pictures are kinda dark. I'm not too bright myself right now!

Happy Science

Today my boys decided to work together on a science project. While for most home school families, this would probably not be blog worthy, the fact that they asked to work together is huge to me! Lately, they've been fighting like gang-busters and it's driving me nuts.

Although I may never know what happened in their little boy brains to switch them back to being best of friends, I am thankful!

By the way, since some of you may actually want to know what the experiment is...
it's titled: Not Too Sweet: Solution Dilution. They are using punch mix, sugar, and water in varying strengths to see how solutions are effected by dilution. Pretty fun!

The Best of Friends

I feel so blessed to have such great friends! As my readers know, this pregnancy has come rather unexpectedly, and we really aren't prepared. You see, Wakko is 7 1/2: we didn't think we were going to have another baby so we got rid of all our baby stuff. Enter my friends!

Tiffanie gave me a whole wardrobe of maternity clothes. Wahoo!

Kerry and Natalie gave us a beautiful crib. It is just gorgeous, and I'll post pictures of it when it gets set up.

Kevin and Nicole gave us a wipes warmer. Yahoo for warm wipes!

Nate and Melissa gave us adorable onsies. Rock on, Cleveland!

My mom crocheted a lovely afghan blanket. It's so cute!

Today, Malisa and Daniel gave us a swing. Our other kids adored their swing, and so this was one of those things on my "essentials" list. I was not at all expecting to receive one; it is appreciated more than I can say! Thanks a million to our amazing and generous family and friends! Your kindness and generousity are appreciated so much!

Our Family's Christmas Letter

Dear Friends and Family,

This year has been one of first, miracles, and unexpected joys. The year started off with us deciding for sure that we are very content living where we do: we know there's a reason we should be here. It was my honor in February to accept the position as choreographer for Taylorsville City's "Bye Bye Birdie". Little did I know that this would be one of the most fun experiences of my life! Our family has been touched by the wonderful friendships forged from that whole experience.

In March, our family went to Disneyland for the first time. It was the most fun it could have been! The only down side is that we fell in love with it so much that we're all itching to go back. Easter time was beautiful and wonderful. Our garden and yard produced so much wonderful food that we felt it was a great blessing.Wakko and Yakko participated in Little League Baseball this year. Although it wasn't Yakko's favorite thing ever, Wakko discovered new talents and abilities. His confidence and talents really grew this spring. My sweetheart changed jobs this summer and is so happy! His commute is five minutes--on a bad day. Work is 1/2 mile down the road, so that's been a great blessing. He feels very needed there and is learning so much every day.

Dot was able to attend her first Girl's Camp and Beehive camp. They were great opportunities for her to grow and step towards being an independant woman. Her self esteem blossomed and her confidence grew to a new level!Yakko did a great job earning awards in scouting and loved his scout day camps. He developed new skills and friendships there. All three kids had a blast learning a ton from their wonderful swimming teacher. They are already asking about swimming lessons for next year! We also developed a new love: archery.
August was a month of miracles and big changes for us. Our lovely boarder moved in: this was such a new and fun adventure for us! We were blessed tremendously to have my awesome brother come for a surprise visit for our dad's birthday. Memories to last a lifetime were made that weekend! It was great having all the siblings together: the only thing that would have made it better would be if my brother's darling family could have been here, too.In August, we were over joyed to also learn that we were expecting our fourth child. Hearts were broken when we learned that we had a miscarriage. The devastation and heart break that followed were indescribable. The support and love we felt from dear family and friends was incredible. Melissa, I still cannot thank you enough for your amazing support during this time. Little did we know that we hadn't had a miscarriage after all; we learned in November that we were actually still pregnant! Our surprise has really been amazing and the emotional roller coaster has been a trip, to say the least.

All three kids auditioned for "A Christmas Carol" at the Hale Center Theater. Although we felt the audition would only supply a good opportunity to have that experience, we were amazed when Yakko was cast as "Tiny Tim". Words cannot suffice the gratitude and joy of that entire production. Yakko's self image and confidence has sky rocketed and doors that we didn't even know existed have been opened wide for him. We will be forever grateful for the chance he has to be part of such a wonderful production in such an amazing place.
Friendships have been strenghtend, formed, and tightend. Love has grown. Life has been formed. Blessings have been abundant. It has been a wonderful year.

May God bless each of you and may your holiday season be filled with joy, laughter, happiness, peace, health, and miracles.

"God Bless us, Everyone!"

Sleep

I am thankful for a good night's sleep! As simple as this may sound, sleep has eluded me for at least the last two weeks; I have been averaging 3 1/2 hours per night. Last night I skipped out on Girls' Night (so sad! I really wanted to go...) in order to try to take better care of myself. I am so happy to announce (who cares?) that last night I got a whopping 9 1/2 hours of sleep! I feel like a whole new woman.
On a totally different note: I finally remembered my camera yesterday, so I took some pictures of Yakko and friends back stage. I will post them soon!

Chivalry is Not Dead!

I was at the post office today, after spending 1 1/2 hours trying (unsuccessfully!) to get a "Click and Ship" label to go through. I had two big-ish boxes weighing a total of 20 lbs. in my arms. I have a pouchy tummy. The line seriously went out the door. It was crazy! A man about my dad's age came up to me and said "I know this may seem really strange, but I'm wondering if you would let me hold those boxes for you. They look awkward to hold. Yes, I know it's weird to ask, but I'd really like to help you." I could have cried with joy! I thanked the man emphatically, and happily handed over the boxes. *Note: there were two men directly ahead of me in line and three directly behind me. This man was leaving the post office.

I thanked the man and told him that I didn't think it was weird that he'd be a gentleman: I found it refreshing. He told me that he hoped my husband wouldn't mind that a strange man helped me out. I told him that he would be happy that someone would help me.

It made my day!

It also made me think about the awesome gentlemen in my life who are so sweet to help people out: my husband, my dad, my brother.

I am crying with appreciation, still. And no, it's not just pregnancy hormones!
